President Jo Bonner making spirits bright one button at a time.
The Office of Marketing and Communications is tasked every year with producing a holiday video for the president. The goal of the video is to serve as a holiday greeting from the president to both internal and external audiences while featuring the entire campus community. The parameters are usually wide with the president looking to the creative team for the big idea. The concept for this submission revolved around something the president is known for: the 1" buttons he gives out to everyone he interacts with. This idea positioned him as a pseudo-Santa Claus, bringing joy to all through the gift of a button in his red golf cart "sleigh." The concept allowed us to feature locations and people from across campus and the health system. We used iconic scenes and familiar music clips from holiday movies to transition from one scene to the next. Beginning with Willie Wonka's world of imagination, the president reenacted scenes from "Elf," "Christmas Vacation," "Home Alone," and "Love, Actually." The video was distributed via email with an open rate of 58.6%. It was also posted to the University's social media channels and received 45,000 views with 1,700 likes, shares and comments.
