I’ve created somewhat of a reputation for myself as a doer. When it comes to production, I know how to get things done. And if I don’t know, I will figure it out. I am intrigued by large scale installations or executions, and I study them and store the knowledge away for later use. Some people have “finstas” (fake instagram accounts). I have a LinkedIn alter-ego — the MVP of Tchotchkes — that I use to post cool things that involve some degree of expertise in order to produce them. On New Year’s Eve, I was inspired to create one of those posts.
In early December, the University of South Alabama celebrated 100,000 graduates. It was a confetti-worthy event for a 60-years-young institution, but with the hustle that comes with the end of a semester and a two-week holiday, we were pulling it together at the last minute. Kudos to the team for creating something from nothing, complete with an Excelsior Band second-line exit and streamers and confetti. I think we’ve established a new tradition. On New Year’s Eve, as I was leisurely scrolling and drinking my morning coffee (see above two-week holiday), I came across some inspiration. It’s a short documentary about the guy who orchestrates the confetti drop in Times Square, and it’s truly epic. Spring commencement 2025 is going to be lit!
