The on-campus transportation system at the University of South Alabama, JagTran, was established in 2005, and by 2022, the vinyl branding elements on the buses were faded and out of date since they incorporated the old, in-the-box logo. Instead of replacing the vinyl with something equally basic, I proposed a concept that would treat the bus as a rolling billboard with copy that reflected the media placement. The result was a series of attention-getting bad bus puns, borrowed from popular song lyrics and attributed as such. By the end of fall semester 2022, ridership was up, and students were loving the face lift.
JagTran in the wild.
This one got the attention of Cupid himself who loved it so much he came to campus and posed for pictures with students.
South Alabama’s mascot is a jaguar.
Not sure the students know who Weird Al is, but the pun was appreciated by the Freddie Mercury fans.
An unsolicited review of the new buses by a South student.
